Why Team Liquid is losing? DM is sure that without Blitz coach they will not regain their former strength

At the BLAST Slam I tournament in Copenhagen, PARIVISION caused a sensation by defeating the current Dota 2 world champions, Team Liquid. PARIVISION’s victory became one of the most discussed events of the tournament, especially in light of the comments of the team’s offlaner Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin. In an interview after the game, DM noted that Team Liquid looks vulnerable without their coach William “Blitz” Lee, which affected both their drafts and their overall level of play.
Despite the fact that both maps ended in PARIVISION’s favor, DM emphasized that the game against Liquid was far from easy. “The victory was achieved through a thorough analysis of our own mistakes in previous matches,” he admitted. This approach to self-analysis was the key to success. PARIVISION used effective drafts and improved communication within the team, which allowed them to prevail. Liquid, on the contrary, showed less convincing preparation. Their drafts were too predictable, and the solution to key game moments often left questions. DM expressed confidence that this is directly related to the absence of Blitz: “Liquid’s drafts look weak right now. They clearly lack a coach.”
Dorokhin paid special attention to the analysis of the drafts. In both games, PARIVISION was able to seize the initiative thanks to smart picks. For example, on the first map, they expected Liquid to pick Doom for the fourth position as an answer to Razor, and prepared for this in advance. As it turned out, it became much easier to predict the opponents’ actions without the participation of Blitz.
In both matches, Liquid took Terrorblade for the third position, a hero that is usually considered a strong choice. On the first map, he showed himself well, but in the second, he found himself in a 1v1 situation against Razor, which turned out to be fatal for him. In addition, the supports of both teams fought each other, leaving the cores less room to maneuver. “Our draft was always better, and Terrorblade simply could not show himself properly in such a layout,” DM summarized. These words highlight the importance of quality analytics and a strategic approach to hero selection, which, according to Dorokhin, Liquid lacks in the absence of a coach.
Why was Blitz’s absence a key factor?
Blitz has established himself as one of the best coaches in Dota 2, and his role in Liquid’s success is hard to overestimate. Under his leadership, the team regularly demonstrated a high level of play, distinguished by both flexible drafts and well-coordinated team play. Blitz’s absence obviously hit the team’s morale and weakened their strategic preparation.
DM also noted that the absence of a coach is especially noticeable in situations that require adaptation. For example, during the tournament, PARIVISION changed their approach to the game several times, adjusting to their opponents. Liquid, on the contrary, acted monotonously, which made them predictable. “Without a coach, the team style becomes tougher and loses variability,” DM added.
One of Dorokhin’s own strengths was his diverse hero pool. According to the player, he tries to experiment with new heroes, which allows him to be one of the most versatile offlaners on the professional scene. “I play Dota 2 a lot and like to try new heroes. That’s how Necrophos appeared in our pool,” he said. This approach also serves as a good example of how important adaptability and flexibility are in modern eSports. PARIVISION demonstrated that they are able to surprise opponents with unconventional solutions, something their counterparts lacked.
